Why it is good to be a Canadian!

"Countless people continue to shop around me, the occasional shopper bumps into my cart and apologizes two or three times. People smile and say, "hello" as they walk past me. I watch as two ladies reach for the same loaf of bread, they touch hands and realize what has happened. Their cheeks turn a wild shade of red, and they each insist the other takes the loaf.

Canadians respect one another. Even though Canadian seem unconcerned with each other's differences, we appear to care quite a bit about each other's welfare. Canadian works so well because most Canadians see people for what they are: people.

We can see past the clothes, the tattoos, the hairstyles, to the bigger picture. We understand that individuality is important, and that to force views on one another is detrimental to our society.

Either Canada or a Canadian works on the realization that we are all equal and one person's view is not superior to another person's view.

Since my Immigration to Canada I stand in line at the cashier waiting to pay for the cookies and juice that I am about to purchase. I open my wallet and a crisp twenty-dollar bill stares back at me.

I smile, as I have just realized that I am fortunate to have enough money to eat, just as most other Canadians are. We are so lucky, and most of us rarely think about our good fortune. People chat about how many centimeters of snow are forecasted for the weekend or about the hockey game last night.

I wonder if any of these shoppers will be going home to kiss their children on the heads, and thank Canada for the security it gives us.

I wonder how many people appreciate the quiet nights, free of terror. A Canadian is so accustomed to the good life that I think we often take for granted what we have.............. "Born Strong, Built Tough, and Proud to be Canadian" …

CANADIAN ECONOMY AT FULL THROTTLE

After performing just marginally better than the United States in the first quarter, the Canadian economy is on track to nearly double the pace of growth of its southern neighbour in the second, according to a new forecast from the Toronto-Dominion Bank.

The bank expects Canada to post annualized growth of 4.9% in the second quarter, after expanding by 6% in the first. The United States, meanwhile, is headed for growth of 2.5% in the second quarter after growing by 5.6% in the first.

TD said that with almost all sectors of the economy getting back on track, Canada will likely produce growth of 3.5% on average in 2002, more than double last year's 1.5%.
